Ghost Town of Tampico Oregon

Lewis McArthur doesn’t even list this town in Oregon Geographic Names!

The coordinates for the Post Office have it just North West of Camp Adair. If you know anything about this town at all, please comment below!

  • Tampico
I recently bought a book called ‘A Pictorial History of Benton County’ and it lists the Tampico Post Office as being established in 1854. It was originally called Soap Creek. An 8-block plat was filed for Tampico in 1857. There’s a bit more about it in this book. Send me an email if you’d like and I can send you pictures of the pages that talk about it. (Rivalry with Corvallis, had a school, was known for saloon and gambling).

    • I found a history of David Davis (my great, great, grand father) who built a lot of Tampico. He settled in Soap Creek in 1847. He built the post office and was the first postmaster in 1853 according to this history. There is lots of info about the family from then. I would love to see any info you may have about Tampico.
