Art Cars
Part of Portland’s “Keep Portland Weird” slogan seems to be the “Art Car.” These are normal, every day vehicles that have been modified, painted, glued, glittered, and weighed down with what is quite frequently perceived as random junk in the name of art. These cars are quite frequent. The Gargoyle Car, the “Clown” Car, the Missile toting Datsun, the Baby Doll Car, and many others, are part of this culture.
Making an Art Car is easy. Take an old car you don’t care about, some hot glue, paint, and the contents of a Goodwill store and let inspiration take hold. If inspiration doesn’t come, get some alcohol, a few friends and start randomly glueing pieces on to the car.
