Oregon History Signs

Oregon History Signs

Oregon has had a long history of posting signs around the state to denote and commemorate important events and people. Built between 1945 and the mid 1960’s, many of the signs built by Oregon Department of Transporation still exist despite years of neglect. Since 1991 the Travel Information Council has been refurbishing these signs with the help of volunteers.

In addition, many Cities, Counties, Historical Societies, and even other Oregon State Government Departments have been putting up their own signs. Combined together, they tell compelling stories of the men (and Women,) who made this state what it is today.

This page is an attempt to document them all. There is barely a place where such signs can not be found these days. Note that this list is by no means complete, and I doubt it will ever be complete. If any of these signs no longer exist please email [email protected] so I can mark them as such.
