1970 – The first day of the week long Vortex I Music festival started. Planned by Governor McCall as a way to keep anti-war protestors away from the American Legion’s annual convention in Portland featuring Richard Nixon as a guest speaker. The free event was held at Milo McIver State Park near Estacada and as far as everyone was concerned, was a success.
