October 12th – Today in Oregon History

    1923 – The town of Maxville is created. 60 Black workers moved their families here to work for the Bower-Hicks Lumber Company

1962 – Columbus Day Storm. A wind storm hit the southern Oregon Coast. Winds up to 145mph were recorded, and were possibly higher but the measuring equipment was damaged by it. Buildings across the western part of the state were damaged, and 46 people lost their lives due to rain and mudslides.
