1965 – After heavy rainfall through December (1964) and early January (1965) across the entire West Coast, a landslide hits Mapleton Oregon’s “downtown”. Mud and trees flooded the downtown area, damaging several buildings including the Post Office. 25 cars were damaged, but luckily no deaths. The Acting Post-Mistress, Ida Love, was carried out of the building into a ditch 25 feet away. A postal clerk, Mrs. Vernon Vancurler, escaped the building by breaking an window.
