Bald Eagle – Oregon Zoo
I love the Oregon Zoo (formerly the Portland Metro Zoo.) I’ve had a membership for about 6 years now and it’s been worth every penny I paid. What I really love about the Zoo in general is how it changes for the better over the years. When I was a kid in the mid-80′s there were still small cages for birds of prey that dated from the 30′s. An entire prairie dog colony lived in a short walled area. Since then the Zoo has grown, modernized every exhibit, and among other areas added a Pacific Northwest theme.
One of the best exhibits is the Bald Eagles. All the Eagles have been rescued and are at the Zoo to heal before being released into the wild. But the joy of seeing one of these great birds up close can not be described. Especially when they decide to fly from one perch to another.
