San Francisco Bay Waterfront

After seven trips in two and a half years, I can say that I’m finally both starting to get tired of, and enjoying “like a local” San Francisco’s Waterfront area. Tired because honestly, there is a lot of seafood there and I’m not a fan.

“Like a local,” because I know where all my favorite stores, photo spots, and restaurants are now. And I have visited each enough times to know they’re my favorite locations.

Or the best view of the ships at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. This picture shows the square-rigger (three masted ship on the left) Balclutha, the paddle wheel tug Eppleton Hall, and some swimmers in the water. While the Steam Ferry Eureka sits in the background.

Or Forbes Island Restaurant and the Liberty Ship, SS Jeremiah O’Brien.

If I time it right, I can get the sunset in the picture too.

With just a hint of the Golden Gate Bridge in the extreme background.

Then we get back on the ferry for a couple more pictures from that unique and awesome vantage point.

And an even more unique view of the old Cruise Ship with the new (on the left.) The San Francisco Belle heads out into the Bay for a sunset dinner cruise, while the Norwegian Princess sits at dock waiting for it’s tired passengers to rejoin.

Late Fall Sunrise

This was taken from Portland’s Tom McCall Waterfront Park in mid-November 2011. We had stopped by Saturday Market for Gyros and Elephant Ears. It was a fairly warm Autumn day, about 50 degrees or so, little to no wind, so almost perfect weather for November!

Waterfront Park has always been a pretty busy transportation corridor. But near sunrise, in the fall, we had it almost all to ourselves.

OHSU at Sunset

OHSU Waterfront thumb OHSU at Sunset landscape city The unique geography of Portland the waterfront lends itself to some very nice sunset photos at times. This one is taken from the deck at OMSI at the southern foot of the Eastbank Esplanade.
