Ghost town of Mitchell Oregon

Stop on a old military road. Town was washed out by flash floods several times. Has a few historic buildings left. Close by to the Painted Hills.

  • I grew up here! I had no idea it was considered a ghost town! It only has a population of about 185 so I guess it would be. This town is a great place to live and grow up!

    • Most people consider a ghost town to be completely abandoned. But realistically if the population is 1/10th of it’s highest population, the town has an assortment of historic buildings, some of which are abandoned/empty, and there is no major industry within the town itself…

I’d love to hear any stories you have about Mitchell, or if you have any pictures of the town you’d like to share.

  • I remember visiting Mitchell but I can’t recall the year. There was an old Mill site of some kind with huge equipment just sitting there. Across the road it looked like there had been a town but the bridge across the ditch leading into it was gone. I always wondered what kind of Mill that was!
